The Old Reading Room

The Victorian Reading Room of West Stafford is of historical importance. It was used before the war as a reading room for the villagers and estate workers, the newspapers were provided, the village shop. Then a garage, workshop and a store room for the church.

It has been lovingly restored, decorated and furnished, turning this amazing building into a cosy self catering holiday retreat, “far from the madding crowd”

Open plan, comfy sofa bed, wood burner, country walks and fabulous village pub.

Dorset Falconry Park

Just a one kilometre stroll away is the Dorset Falconry Park, which is set in a beautiful rural 7 acre site in Lewell. It has over 100 birds of prey on display which include Owls, Hawks, Eagles, Falcons and Vultures.

Daily flying demonstrations will allow you to see the majestic owls, fast flying falcons and powerful eagles showing their natural abilities. The site also has a tea room, small shop area, picnic area and meadow.

Fishing

We have the use of nine stunning beats on three of Dorset’s main rivers, that is a different beat for each day of a week’s holiday – Fly Fishing Dreams come true…..

All our beats offer very different fishing, some with mown banks and a few additional stock fish and other beats that are a challenge offering the chance of either a huge Grayling or a monster Wild Brown Trout, one of our beats you could tempt a large Chub on the Mayfly or a Pike on the Fly during a winter break, why not take on some of the Salmon and Sea Trout fishing we have to offer.

Home Beat – Watery Beat – Dorchester Fishing Club – River Cerne – Lower Piddle Fishery – East Burton Fishery – Middle Stour – Middle Frome – Lower Frome.

Please take a look at our fishing page for more details on our fishing and the beats available.
